Dance Recital, #BowlingGreenCon, and #AmWatching

Hope all you moms – birth, adoptive, foster, step, fur babies, and others – had a wonderful Mother’s Day yesterday! Mine was pretty quiet. We traveled out of town to visit family, drove seven hours back home, then grilled out yesterday.

Over the weekend I attended my first dance recital – it was our eight-year-old niece’s first. With my sons, I spent my time at sporting and band events. Several different types of dances were performed – ballet, jazz, tap, acro, contemporary – probably more I can’t identify. The performers ranged from young ones (3-4 year olds kind of dancing to I Want Candy – so adorable!) up to high school seniors. So much talent! I’m no expert, but I think some of those dancers could go far if that’s their chosen career.

This Saturday, May 20th, I’m participating in my first comic con. It will be held at the Corvette Museum here in Bowling Green, KY from 10 am – 5 pm, and I’ll be there with all my books. I’m always looking for new events and ways to get my books in front of readers and another author friend (thanks, Sue!) mentioned she usually did well at the ones she’d participated. She thought I might find a good audience there. If it’s successful, there are plenty others relatively close where I could get a table. I’ll give a report next Monday.

Has anyone watched The Last Thing He Told Me on Apple TV+? It’s a mini-series adapted from a book by Laura Dave starring Jennifer Garner and Nikolaj Coster-Waldau. I haven’t read the novel so I can’t say how closely it follows that plot line, but it sure has me captivated. I’ll watch anything Garner is in (she’s also from WV where I grew up), and I’m a fan of Coster-Waldau from Game of Thrones. Here’s the description: Hannah must forge a relationship with her 16-year-old stepdaughter, Bailey, to find the truth behind why her husband has mysteriously disappeared.

Have a great week!

Had a great mom’s day here. Did thr usualhikes, Although there was a bit of snow to walk through it was warm enough not to bother us. Sounds like a fun event you are going to do. I hope you get a ton of sales!

  2. Happy Mother’s Day.

I’m intrigued by the comic con. Best wishes. Can’t wait to hear all about it.

That show is on my radar. I almost started it this weekend, but I got sidetracked by Severance and binged the whole thing. Can’t wait for season two. (It better get a season two.)

    1. And Severence is on my list. Maybe I should wait to watch it until it’s approved for Season 2 just in case, lol. There are six episodes of the Garner show out now. Trust me, you’ll also binge that one.

      1. I binged Rabbit/Hole. I currently watching The Citadel and am impatient for weekly drops. (And it’s not nearly as good as Rabbit/Hole or Severance.) Maybe I should wait for the Garner show to release all the episodes…

We better not be jinxing these shows!

  3. Have fun at the comic con, Teri. It sounds like fun, and you’re doing great at getting in front of readers. I should get off my duff and rustle up some energy to do the same. And I’m looking forward to hearing how it went.

I haven’t watched The Last Thing He Told Me (no Apple TV here). We just finished 13 seasons of The Good Wife and The Good Fight. We’ve jumped into the Rabbit Hole. 🙂

    1. I’m hoping to make some new connections, Diana. There’s a possibility Son #1 will be there with me.

We still need to watch the season finale of Rabbit Hole. It’s sure kept me guessing, so I really don’t know what to expect with this last episode.

  4. With two granddaughters, I often find myself at dance recitals and am always amazed at the dedication and talent these children show. Good luck at Comicon! I think you will do great there. I haven’t watched the new series yet, but it caught my eye. Glad to hear it’s compelling. Thanks for sharing!

    1. It was easy to tell how much work went into those performances, Jan. Our niece really loves it, so there may be more recitals in our future, lol. Hope you get a chance to watch The Last Thing He Told Me – you’ll find yourself bingeing it.

  5. Hi Teri, Driving 7 hours home is tiring. We also have to drive long distances here. Your comic con events sounds interesting. I look forward to hearing about it. I don’t do many events here as there is no culture of reading in South Africa so they tend to be a waste of time from a sales POV. I attend ones that revolve around meeting authors and illustrators rather than making sales.

    1. I’m hoping to make some new connections, and sales wouldn’t be a bad thing, lol. I’ve been to some events where I thought I’d sell more and others where I was surprised at how many people bought my books. It’s so unpredictable. I saw where you attended an event recently, Robbie – looked like it was a fun one!

Glad you enjoyed your Mothers Day. It wasn’t Mothers Day here… Ours was back in March.

Nice you could go to the dance recital, and that some of the kids were actually pretty good. I bet even the ones who weren’t so good were adorable though. Especially from the younger age groups.

Good luck at the comicon, and have fun!

    1. I never realized they were on different days, Tori – so a happy belated one to you!

And you’re right about those younger kids – sooo adorable. And not one instance of stage fright that I saw. They seemed to love the costumes and being on stage. Thanks, Tori!

  7. I finished Rabbit Hole (watched because of your suggestion 😊) and loved it! Next I want to watch The Last Thing He Told Me. Dance recitals and dance competitions were my life starting when my oldest was two and not ending until my youngest was a senior in college. That’s a lot of years. I never understood why they thought doing the recitals on Mother’s Day weekend is such a treat. It never was for me because it’s a lot of work getting all their stuff ready and getting them to rehearsals and to the venue on recital day. Glad you got to see your niece’s. I’m sure she loved having you there!

    1. We’re watching the finale tonight, so I’m excited to see where it leaves off.

I also thought the timing of the recital wasn’t ideal. My BIL and SIL had to split up the weekend because one of their daughters was graduating from college. With so many graduations this time of year, seems like the recital could have been scheduled in April or June. That’s a lot of years in dance, Tessa – I bet you miss it sometimes.
