Tree Removal and #AmWatching

We were traveling the past several days, so I’m behind on a lot of your blogs. Hoping to get caught up over the next few days!

I mentioned we’d lost several trees due to the windstorm a few weeks ago. We were on a tree service waiting list since they were first taking clients with structural damage. Thankfully, that wasn’t the case for us. The service came last week and removed two 30-40 foot tall trees that had fallen and another of the same size that was tilted with root exposure. They also removed seven twelve foot tall shrub-like trees (not sure what the technical name for them is) around our patio. We’d planned on having these removed even before the storm because they’d gotten too big and were interfering with gutters and sunlight. The first picture shows the tree line up to where the others were removed. The second is the large gap we now have.

The trees around the patio were Bond’s favorites. While leashed, he used them as camouflage to spy on prey (birds, moles), to hide neighbors in their yards, and also to mark his territory in case the neighbor’s cat decided to visit (after Sora, he’s next on Bond’s arch nemesis list). He wasn’t pleased when we let him out to inspect the results.

Has anyone watched Rabbit Hole with Kiefer Sutherland on Paramount+? I’ve been a fan of his since Lost Boys, so there was no way I was missing this. We’ve watched the first two episodes, and I’m hooked. Here’s the description: Nothing is what it seems when John Weir, a master of deception in the world of corporate espionage, is framed for murder by powerful forces with the ability to influence and control populations.

  1. I hope you’re happy with the tree removal. I’m sorry Bond isn’t.

Rabbit Hole is on my list. I love Kiefer, too. I haven’t started it yet because I don’t want to wait for all the episodes to drop. I’m going to binge it once all episodes have been released. I’m glad to know you like it. That means I will.

Have you watched The Night Agent? It reminded me a little of Epix’s Condor. Kept a brisk pace.

    1. I’ve watched about 4-5 episodes of The Night Agent and I like it. It got put on hold a few nights for Kiefer’s new show and the new season of Succession. I wish I was patient enough to wait for all the episodes to drop, lol.

    1. We planted them the first year we moved to KY so they were 17 years old, Joan. The tree guys did a fantastic job, but we sure miss our trees.

Hope you get to watch Rabbit Hole – I think you’d enjoy it.

  2. I can relate to Bond, Teri. I love trees, so it’s always sad to lose them. But what can you do when the wind takes them down? Not much. And thanks for the note on Rabbit Hole. It’s one I’ve been looking forward to, but we haven’t started it yet. We just finished Shadow and Bone, so we might be jumping in soon. 🙂

    1. We hated to lose them, Joan, and I’m sure there were several bird nests in them, too. But you’re right – when Mother Nature decides to take them, there’s not much you can do. I’m only one episode in on Shadow and Bone so far. I was determined to finish a couple other series before starting another.

      1. We binge them too, Teri, and like to finish one before starting another. Shadow and Bone is a mash up with Six of Crows (as you probably noticed). There should be a third season we’re all going to need to wait for, so no rush.

    1. When we first had those around the patio planted, the landscraper assured us they wouldn’t get very tall. He was wrong about several things he planted. But I’ll be making a trip this week to buy something to replace them.

I’m glad for you that you got the tree removal dealt with (before you had structural damage to worry about) but feel bad for Bond about it. It also makes me kind of sad when trees have to be removed.

    1. I feel the same way about trees, Tori. Our neighborhood lost a lot during that storm. A neighbor behind us still has a large tree lying on their fence. As for Bond? He found another bush to mark, lol.

  4. Wind storms can wreak a lot of havoc. We haven’t had any recent tree damage, but our trees have grown so much since we moved here 20 years ago that I worry when the storms kick in. I’m sorry Bond has had trouble adjusting!

    1. That’s the case with ours, Barbara. When we planted them nearly 17 years ago, they were a few feet tall. Now they’re 30-40 feet. Luckily the one that fell toward the neighbor’s house didn’t cause any damage. And Bond is fully adjusted now – he found another bush to claim!

I had a tree fall on my house during a storm at 2am a few years back. No major damage, but we did have to get some of the roof and deck fixed up a bit. It was so interesting to watch the people come and remove the tree and they took out a couple of other trees while they were there.

    1. So glad no one was hurt, Wendy! It’s scary enough during the day, but that’s a rude awakening at night. The tree service has been steadily working 80+ hours over the past three weeks, with plenty more customers waiting. They did a great job for us.

  6. Hi Teri, we have also had to remove trees on our property over the years and I also don’t like doing it. On the plus side, we have also planted a lot of trees. We had a 100 year old palm tree but it was struck by lightening twice and incurred a lot of damage. We had to get it cut down. We also removed conifers from around the border line. Conifers don’t last long we’re we live.

  7. I think I’ve mentioned before that I’m a huge The Lost Boys fan, so you know I had to immediately go to Paramount+ and start episode 1 of Rabbit Hole. Watching it right now 😁
