Happy New Year! Our New Year’s Eve was spent the same as the past several – dinner at our house with friends and family, and then games (with football on in the background, of course) until the final countdown to midnight. Plenty of food and tons of laughs – I can’t imagine a better way to welcome in the new year.
One thing I want to improve on this year (among many others) is my social media. I post regularly on my blog, but my FB author page and Instagram have fallen to the wayside in the past few months. I plan on creating a schedule and sticking to it. Something that seems to work for me is lists. I’ve mentioned before if I don’t have a roadmap for the day, I’m like Dory from Finding Nemo – I swim aimlessly and forget my goals. Setting time limits is also a thing for me. If not, I’ll disappear into the internet and accomplish nothing. Lists and time limits!
Anyone do the Goodreads Reading Challenge? I seriously surpassed my goal last year – I read 140 books of my goal of 90! Part of that is because I went overboard on requesting NetGalley ARCs (mostly because I wasn’t writing – see last Monday’s post). I’ve cut back on ARCs, plan to read the mountain of my own purchased books waiting for me, and hopefully have a finished draft of Book 5 by March. I set my reading challenge goal at 110 for this year – it just won’t consist of so many ARCs.
Wishing everyone a happy new year filled with health, happiness, new adventures, and good fortune!
Wow! Well done on your Reading Challenge. Have a fabulous 2023. It looks like you are on the right track. xo

Hoping to stay on that track, Darlene, lol. I keep telling myself baby steps – it all adds up.

I did the 2022 Goodreads reading challenge, but only because Goodreads prompted me to do it.:-) I have no idea if I met my goal or not. Have a wonderful 2023, Teri!

I need those prompts to keep me in line, Priscilla. Like I mentioned above – it’s about lists for me. Happy New Year!

Getting back to writing is a big goal to me. Can’t keep using the writer’s block excuse if you aren’t even trying!
Hope you have a wonderful year!

Thanks, Gemma! I’m still not sure what the problem was for me last year. I had a release in May and should have had Book 5 drafted by then – but I had nothing. I’ve finally started on it, and I’m determined to keep going. Hope you can also find your mojo!

My reading challenge was 40, and I only read 30, so that was frustrating. I was really focused on my novel, though. This year I set it a little lower at 35. We shall see!

I upped mine from last year. I usually have one going on the Kindle and an audiobook, so that’s increased my total. Wish I’d been focused on my novel last year, Deby, lol.

Happy New Year! Congrats on your Goodreads challenge and I totally feel you on over requesting on Netgalley!!!!

Yes! I’m making a real effort to clear my shelf and not request so many this year, Caro.

WOW!! I know you are a voracious reader, Teri, but 140 books?!?!? You hit it out of the ballpark! I think I set my original goal for 80 or 85 and read 108 (down from last year’s total of 115).
I’m wishing you much success for your goals in 2023. I got rid of my FB account years ago and haven’t been active on IG in sometime. I’m debating about deleting my account there. I just want to concentrate on my blog and writing. That’s going to be challenging enough for me, LOL.
Happy New Year!

I got plenty of reading done, but nothing on Book 5, Mae, other than making some notes. This year will be different.
I’m trying to build my followers on Insta. I need to start doing stories, but I hate recording myself. Maybe I’ll get Bond to do it, lol.

LOL! Even the thought of tackling stories on IG is beyond me.
Wishing you well with Book 5, too. Is it something new or a continuation?

Wish you the very best 2023. I’m also trying list and time limit. As I’m used to adjustable routine without any organised plan it’s taking time to make it habit.

I know all about that, Yesha. When I have my list and set time limits, I get so much more done in a day. Good luck!

Happy New Year Teri!! That sounds like a fun New Year’s Eve. I just sat at home with my husband me on the computer him watching tv. I made him stay up until midnight so I could get my years kiss. Next year I told him he can go to bed when he wants to and I will just wake him up close to midnight lol. I’ve never been all that good at sticking with Instagram but I’m going to try to do better with it this year. My plan is to post 1-2 posts a week. Well done on your reading goal. I read 134 books this year which is my personal best. I set my goal for 100 every year since 2018. I hope you have an amazing 2023!!

Sounds like a peaceful way to spend New Year’s, Misty – a perfect way to start the new year. You mentioned Instagram, and I just remembered I didn’t post today. In my defense, I’ve been traveling all say and just sat down with the computer. Guess I’ll have to post it tomorrow.

It was a great way to start the year off. I didn’t share my post until 5pm. I kept forgetting to take my picture. Tomorrows just as good a day as today is.

That’s a lot of reading! I was happy to read 78 books, surpassing my goal of 65. I set a goal of 75 for this year. I hope (plan) to be writing a lot more.
Wishing you all the best this year!

Congrats on surpassing your goal, Joan! I plan to read less this year – and that’s because I’ll be doing all that writing. Keeping my fingers crossed for both of us!

If I don’t have a list, I’ll just wander around doing whatever looks interesting or entertaining, Iseult. Then later I’ll remember all the things I was supposed to be doing. Happy New Year!

Happy new year! Sounds like you had a great time seeing in the new year.
Awesome on the number of books you read in 2022! And good luck with your goal for 2023.
I’ve done the Goodreads reading challenge every year for almost as long as I’ve been on Goodreads, so I think this is my 10th year doing it. I used to set my reading goal high, and generally managed to meet or beat it, but last year I saw I was starting to get involved with more things so only set it to 52 books, and it’s lucky I did, since that’s how many I read. I set my goal to the same number for 2023, but I’m hoping to beat it this time to be honest. I’m just keeping it low to avoid making myself stress over it.

Happy New Year to you, Tori! We had a wonderful time as always with our friends and family. Hope yours was also a good one.
I think I’ve failed the challenge one year, but it was only by a couple books. Then the next year I exceeded it by so much I raised my number. Good luck with yours this year!
