A belated Happy Father’s Day to all you fathers out there! We’re not much for restaurant crowds and prefer to have a quiet day at home and grill out. Hubby did some yard work and then he and Son #2 smoked cigars on the patio later in the evening. Although I was afraid we’d be watching some Hallmark movie (he’s a big fan and threatened to choose You’re Bacon Me Crazy), Hubby chose John Wick #2. I think it was actually more of Son #2’s choice, but I was fully on board with it. We also finally opened the good bottle of wine Hubby bought for our anniversary a year and a half ago. We’d been waiting for my taste and smell to come back so I could actually appreciate it, and over the past month both senses made big leaps and are mostly back to normal – finally!
Has anyone watched First Kill on Netflix? It’s based on a short story written by one of my favorite authors, Victoria Schwab, and I’ve always been a vamp fan. I’ve only got one episode left, and things are seriously heating up – loads of tension and conflict. Somehow I never got to the theater to see Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, but I was excited to see that it will be streaming on Disney+ June 22 – so you know what I’ll be watching soon.
Have a great week!
Glad your hubby had a good Father’s Day! My Father-in-law turned 90 on Father’s Day so we had a party for him.

Haven’t seen First Kill. I’ll have to look for it. (Of course, if I like it, you know it’s doomed.)

Maybe we should quit watching the same shows to give the new ones a better chance of survival, lol.

Hadn’t heard of First Kill, but it sounds like something I should check out.

It’s got some nice conflict, Craig – a monster hunter and vampire fall in love. Both of their families also have a big presence. I also love that the setting is Savannah, GA.

Sounding better all the time. That hunter/monster relationship has been done before, but I think there’s a lot of mileage left in it.

I agree – this one is different from anything I’ve read or watched.

Could happen to Lizzie, but it depends upon your definition of Monster.

I wanted to see it because of your mention above, but doubly so now that you said it’s set in Savannah! (I don’t have cable or streaming or anything like that, sadly.)

A Savannah or New Orleans setting will hook me every time! So much history (and possibly ghosts?) in both locations. Maybe have a watch party with a friend – or use their login, lol!

I know…I miss the Southern style of nature, for sure! New Orleans is amazing!

My 16-year-old is watching First Kill and she absolutely loves it!! I caught the first episode and am intrigued.

I’m a Schwab fan, but didn’t read the anthology with the short story First Kill is based on. I had high expectations since it had her name on it, and I definitely wasn’t disappointed. Hope you get a chance to watch the other episodes!

It sounds like you had a wonderful weekend, Teri. Happy Belated Father’s Day to your husband. And thanks for the recommendation of First Kill. We’re always looking for something good and series are awesome as they last a little while! Have a great week.

Same to your hubby, Diana! First Kill has eight episodes, each around 40-45 minutes or so. Have you watched the new season of Stranger Things? Soooo good – maybe my favorite so far.

I wrote down First Kill so we can start it tonight. Stranger Things – I don’t know why, but I’m having trouble getting into it. I loved that show and couldn’t wait for it to start up again. Maybe I expected monsters instead of Russians. Sticking with it though. We just started the final season of Animal Kingdom last night. Were you following that one? All I can say is it’s going to be intense! 🙂

We also started the final season of Animal Kingdom. Sure hate that it’s ending. There are still monsters alongside the Russians – don’t give up!

They’re still screwed up, of course, but it’s amazing those boys turned out as well as they did.

Not such a vampire fan, but I am hearing lots of good things about First Kill.

I’ve been a vamp fan for as long as I can remember, Deby, and I can’t really explain why. It started long before I read Anne Rice’s series.

That sounds like a perfect day, Denise! With a break in the heat, it would have been a good day to hike here also. I’ll have to figure out when to watch Doctor Strange – hubby isn’t really a fan, unfortunately. Hope you get a chance to watch First Kill!

Yes Happy Fathers Day to all the dads out there! I’ve been without tv for a few months, so I’m kinda out of the loop, but First Kill sounds like something I’d enjoy!

As long as I can stream online, I’d be happy, but I don’t think hubby could do without a TV that long, Priscilla. He has to have his sports!

I feel like I’m juggling too many shows right now, and still have some waiting in the wings, Caro. Seems like all the good ones are released around the same time.

I didn’t realize First Kill was based off of a book. I have it saved to eventually watch but now I’m going to have to read the book. I’m glad you smell and taste has finally came back.
LikeLiked by 1 person
It’s actually in an anthology, Misty. I never got around to reading it, but I knew I’d like it if Schwab wrote it. And yes – it’s wonderful to be able to taste and smell again after eighteen months!

I’m going to have to see if I can find it because now that I know it is an adaptation my brain tells me I can’t watch it until I read it lol. When I got COVID my taste and smell never completely went away thankfully so when I got over it my smell and taste were back to normal immediately. I can’t imagine how it would be to go so long without being able to taste or smell anything.

It wasn’t fun. I still can’t smell popcorn at the movie theater, so that’s disappointing.

I can take it or leave it, but there’s something about smelling it at the movie theater – and then there’s that good butter.

I was hoping that Dr. Strange would be streaming soon. I didn’t see it at the theater either. I guess I know what I’ll be watching Saturday night ❤️

I’d planned on watching it at the theater, but had a conflict nearly every weekend. Then it got to the point when I figured it was just a matter of time before it hit Disney+ so I waited. My patience paid off!

Hi Teri, it sounds like you had a great Fathers Day celebration. We went out last Sunday for lunch and I cooked for this weekend past. We also had a lovely feast.

I saw what you cooked – the lamb, I think? Hubby and sons are fans of lamb, but I’m not. I tried it years ago, but never developed a taste for it. Sounds like you guys also had a fabulous Father’s Day, Robbie.

I spent most of the weekend resting to recover from my bright idea of single-handedly moving things around in my craft room so my desk could be in there in 75F heat without air conditioning on Friday. But other than that it was a good one.

We have up Dish Network last summer. Haven’t missed it. We do stream a lot, just never have tried Netflix.
