It’s book release week! The Insurgent (The Colony #2) will be released on Thursday, May 19th. And what will I be doing? Hubby and I are flying to Austin to move Son #2 back to KY. This was his self-proclaimed “gap year”, so he’s moving back to save money and start applying to grad schools. He’ll be living with us the first couple months (which will be totally weird again after not living at home for five years) until his new lease starts. The temp is predicted to be over 100 degrees in Austin the day we load the UHaul, so, you know, we’re super excited about that.
I posted another excerpt of The Insurgent on Friday HERE. If you can’t wait until Thursday to order your copy, preorder it HERE. If you haven’t read the first book, Subject A36, it will be on sale for $0.99 May 25th through May 27th!
Over the weekend I went with a couple friends to Van Gogh: The Immersive Experience in Nashville. Several other friends across the country had gone to it, and I’d heard nothing but good things. It was truly dazzling. I possess adequate words to describe it, so the pics below will have to do. Enjoy and have a great week!

The Van Gogh Immersive Experience looks very cool. My youngest daughter is moving back home after we get back from vacation until she figures out what’s next. It’s going to be strange for us too. Have a wonderful publication week!

It’s weird – you have them in the house for eighteen years. Then you become empty nesters and find the new norm, then having them back becomes strange again, lol. We’ll enjoy having him home for a while, and his new apartment is less than ten minutes away, so we’ll still see him much more than we did over the past year.

The things we do for our kids… That immersive experience looks wonderful.

Right? And you just went through this also, Craig. The Van Gogh exhibit was just incredible – also pretty meditative. I could have sat there for hours.

It was stunning, Darlene. Whoever designed it is an artistic genius, if you ask me. And thanks!

First congrats on release week! This is so exciting! Moving under 100°F…not so much! And I have admired Van Gogh’s paintings at Quai Dorsay and it was already mesmerizing!

Thanks so much, Sophie! Think about the paintings you saw and then imagine them on steroids – that’s the best way to describe it, lol. We were literally surrounded by art.

One of my friends bought us tickets as a Christmas present back in December – and what a fantastic idea it was, Priscilla. We’ve decided to look for more “experiences” to do together.

Congrats on release week and good luck with the move. I don’t have much knowledge on painting but I find them interesting to look at. 😁

Same here, Yesha. I don’t know much about art – only took one class in college – but I sure can appreciate it. Thanks!

Huge congrats, Teri. You’re way ahead of me. I still can’t get focused for my conclusion on Dead of Winter. Heaven knows I’m trying…
Anyhow, try not to work too hard. Wishing you huge success.

Thanks, my friend! The ending will come when it’s ready. I struggled with this book through the pandemic (and also while I had Covid), but then one day I heard a song on the radio and the whole ending played out for me like a movie. You never know when or where the inspiration will strike.

Have fun moving (I really hate moving and have swore I won’t do it again!) It will be weird having him home again but really nice too ❤️

Hubby and I were counting how many times we’ve moved our two sons, and it’s been every summer for the past nine years, Caro, lol. Part of it was college, and the rest were for jobs or new apartments.

We should start charging them, lol!

We are definitely having unseasonably HOT weather in Texas. We normally don’t hit triple digits until July. Stay hydrated! They advertised the Van Gogh experience when it was here in Dallas and I regret that I couldn’t go. It looks amazing! Congrats on the new release!

You sure are, Jan – I’ve been keeping an eye on the forecast. The heat is something our son is definitely not going to miss. It gets hot and humid here in KY, but usually somewhere in the 90s is the highest it gets – and that’s when I say indoors! Maybe you’ll get another chance to see the exhibit – it’s traveling all over the country.

Good luck with the book launch, enjoy your son’s company and drink lots of water on your Austin trip! That immersive Van Gogh experience is amazing! x

I expect we’ll be chugging bottles of water. My son and I aren’t fans of the heat, so we were surprised when he moved to Austin, but with two of his best friends going he couldn’t pass it up. The Van Gogh exhibit was incredible – those pics don’t do it justice. Thanks for stopping by, Trish!

The Van Gogh experience was in Dallas several months ago. Wish I had been able to go. It looks amazing.
Good luck with the moving. As Jan said, we’re having unusually warm temperatures for this time of year.
And best wishes with the new book release!

Thanks, Joan! I looked at our forecast in KY, and it’s only predicted to get in the 60s on Sunday. Our heat-hating son will be very happy, lol. Hope you can catch the exhibit in another city!

I just pre ordered your book, and I’m looking forward to it! Good luck with the move! Last summer we moved out son from Arizona to Denver and then 3 months later we moved him right back again! Kids!

I’m doing a happy dance, Wendy – thanks so much, and I hope you enjoy it! Kids and their moves – but there’s no way we’d turn them down, lol.

I am green with envy that you got to go to the van Gogh interactive experience. I was supposed to go to the real museum this coming week and Terence couldn’t get a visa in time. It takes 6 to 8 weeks now to get a visa for Europe. I am sure it will be great fun for you having your son at home for a while.

It was a wonderful Christmas present from my friend, Robbie – such an enjoyable experience. We were supposed to go in March, but it was postponed for some reason. I hope you’re able to get to the museum some other time. And yes, we’re excited to have him home!
