Vaccine, Alex P. Keaton, and #AmWatching

Hubby, both sons, and I have all had our first vaccine – yay!!!! We go back around the second week of April for the last one and other than sore arms, we have no side effects to report. Vaccination appointments seem to be plentiful around here right now, which is a blessing. Hoping it’s that way everywhere soon. I heard that after having COVID and then receiving the vaccine, some people’s residual effects are disappearing. I’ve noticed a slight increase in my ability to smell, so maybe there’s something to it.

Hubby and I spent Thursday evening watching Harlan Coben in conversation with Michael J. Fox. I’ve been a Fox fan since Family Ties, and Coben’s Myron Bolitar series is one of my favorites. If you’ve read those novels, you’re familiar with Myron’s friend Windsor Horne Lockwood III, aka Win. This new spinoff series is from Win’s perspective – and he’s a morally gray character at best whose heart is in the right place most of the time – maybe? Our signed copy should be here this week. Coben and Fox have been friends for over a decade, and we spent a humorous hour listening to them talk about their new releases, Alex P. Keaton, golfing trips, and writing. A fantastic way to spend an evening.

For those of you who know what a big Marvel fan I am, you shouldn’t be surprised that I watched The Falcon and the Winter Soldier on Disney+ this weekend. It’s also no surprise that I loved every minute of it. The two of them didn’t share screentime yet, but I’m looking forward to that snarky relationship between them. Hubby and I also watched the movie Let Him Go starring Kevin Costner and Diane Lane. All I’ll say is that it was a waste of talent, and we’re thinking about emailing the production company and requesting a refund of our $6.

Can anyone explain what happened to Gutenberg editor in the past few days? When I create a post, the font is extremely small, and images are out of whack when I insert them.

It’s nice that the vaccines are so plentiful. I became eligible in my state this morning and I’m in the process of getting scheduled. Glad you got your first shot! I didn’t know you’d already had Covid.

Let Him Go looked so good! Sad it wasn’t. Have a great week, Teri. 😁

    1. Hope you get scheduled soon! I had Covid in early December and was lucky that it was a mild case. The worst is that I lost sense of smell and taste, but I’m hoping it’s coming back.

We’re Costner fans and were looking forward to watching the movie, but it was a real disappointment.

I’m going on Wednesday. Really shocked it’s so soon, but I think it’s because we’re very rural with low population in our county.

Huge Costner fan too. I’ve never seen him in a movie that disappointed.

  2. When drafting a post, check the Font Size box just under Typography, Teri. It may be set to ‘small’ font. You can change it.

With regards to images, how do you insert them? Do you drag and drop onto the post or insert them from your media library? When I add images to my post, I always align them centre. You’ll find the align option in the toolbar at the top of your post.

    I hope that helps?

    1. I knew you’d have answers, Hugh! I changed the font size when I was drafting, but then it changed the font size on the actual post, making it far too large. With the images, I insert them through the library. Everything was working fine, but then WP changed it up again late last week.

      1. Can you customise the size of the font on your blog? On the dashboard of your blog, under Appearances, click on customise and then fonts. Some themes allow you to set the size of the font. If not, I think the best thing to do is contact the Engineers at WordPress. They are in the process of rolling out a new navigation centre to all users (I got mine last week), so your blog may be about to get the change. Nothing major – the only thing you’ll lose is the WP-Admin button on the dashboard. Plus, some of the pages will look different when you click on buttons like Posts, Comments, etc. I had a few small problems with my blog before they rolled out the new navigation centre to me, but it’s all working fine now.
I hope it gets sorted, Teri.

And congratulations on getting your Covid jab. I got my first jab yesterday.

          1. Definitely worth reporting the problems to WordPress then, Teri. Especially given that they are rolling out the new navigation centre to all users. It could be a bug in the theme you use. Then again, it could be something I have no idea about. But I’m sure they’ll sort it out and be thankful to you for reporting it. Without our feedback, they’d have a lot more problems on their plate. I’d be interested in knowing what they say.

      1. That one and the one after Spiderman webbed them both in Civil War and Bucky said, “I hate you.” You could just see the chemistry there. I’m just sad there are only six scheduled episodes.

I adore Sebastian Stan, especially as this character. He’s so deliciously tortured. And he started as such a fun, happy, loyal guy. It’s a great arc.

  3. I’m glad you’re starting to get your smell back! The Gutenberg thing is weird. I’ve heard other bloggers complain . . . and then things magically get better. Hmm. For me the Reader has been acting weird, like not sending me notifications when I’m subscribed to a blog. This happened to me once before, and I went through and unsubscribed then resubscribed.

    1. Maybe it will mysteriously go back just as suddenly as it changed. I’ll keep my fingers crossed. With the smells, I’ll get an initial hit, but then it seems to fade away – weird. But at least it’s something.

    1. Maybe the smell will come back in baby steps, but I wouldn’t be offended if it came back all of a sudden after the second dose! Watching MJF and Coben was such fun. It made it even more enjoyable since they’d been friends for so long and it felt like we were listening to a regular conversation between them.

  4. How nice to get your sense of smell back in time for spring. I’m happy to hear Michael J Fox is still out there working on projects. I’ve always been a big fan of his. I’m still using the classic editor, so I’m clueless with the block.

    1. I think he said this was his fourth book? I don’t read much nonfiction, but I’d definitely make an exception in his case. I would have stayed with classic editor, but WP took away that option in September. I know others are still using it, so I guess I’m just on the blacklist.

  5. Another update from WordPress, and everything is wonky again. I haven’t had any issues with font sizes or images, but I don’t care for the new interface. I guess I’ll get used to it.

That’s awesome you’ve all got your first rounds of shots. In my state. my husband and I aren’t eligible yet. We have to wait until it’s rolled out to the general population. There are rumors that may be by the beginning of May—then, of course, we have to find a time slot to get scheduled. At least it’s getting closer!

  6. Oohh, I watched Falcon and The Winter Soldier yesterday after finishing the directors cut of Justice League which spurred the conversation about how much better marvel is than dc at the storytelling. I think it’s all in character development 😊. That talk with Michael J. Fox sounds so good!

I’m so glad to read that you’ve all gotten shots! (at least the first one) I believe I’ll have to wait until at least April 12 (here in Illinois) – I think that’s when I fall into the right category.

Did you listen to Marc Maron’s interview with Michael J. Fox? It was about 6 months ago or so and it was really great.

  8. Congrats on getting the vaccine. Hubs and I have had both doses. I had about 24 hours of fatigue after the second dose but then felt great!

Or sure with Gutenberg. WordPress seems to always be messing with something.

  9. Ha! “we’re thinking about emailing the production company and requesting a refund of our $6.” I’m sorry. That’s a great way to say it. 😀

I’m not sure about WP. I still use the classic editor. Oy. I do. I’m dreading when I have to move over into whatever-it’s-called. I’ve used the other view a few times and can’t get the hang of it.

Can’t wait to see he Falcon and the Winter Soldier!

    1. Hubby is more generous about movie reviews when it comes to Costner, but even he didn’t care for it. WP took away my option for the classic editor, or I’d probably still be using it. I don’t use a lot of the options in Gutenberg, but I get by with what I need. You’ll love Falcon and Winter Soldier!

I’m glad none of you had anything worse than sore arms, and hope the vaccine is helping with improving symptoms like your sense of smell.. That would be wonderful!
