Hope everyone had a wonderful Christmas! Hubby tested negative for COVID-19, so that was like a bonus Christmas gift for us. We were able to spend a socially distanced/partially outdoors Christmas Eve with friends who are more like family and had both boys here, so ours was perfect. Being an hour north of Nashville and having AT&T as our cell phone provider, our phones were out for a few days, but we were still able to email family and friends.
Santa left Bond, our furry cat friend, new balls with bells inside (his favorite) and catnip mice in his Christmas stocking. The picture shows his favorite thing – wrapping paper. It was hours before we were able to get it away from him and put it in the trash. Just like kids getting new toys and preferring to play with the boxes they came in.
I also added some new items to my nerd cabinet. My book club Secret Santa gave me a couple Star Wars action figures – Han and Chewbacca. The youngest son added Ronin to my Funko Pop collection, and I finally put together the Star Wars Legos hubby gave me last year – almost 500 pieces. All of this joins my Harry Potter Legos (featured here last spring), Marvel golf balls, and Funko Pops Hawkeye, Westley (The Princess Bride), and Ted (the Geek from Sixteen Candles).
I got my Year in Books email from Goodreads, and I exceeded my reading goal by 18 books – soon to be 19. I can’t remember the last time that happened, but since the writing has been so slow this year, it’s easy to see what I was doing instead of adding words to the WIP.
We’re almost finished with this crappy year so hang in there a few more days!
Sounds like a wonderful Christmas was had by all. Even the cat 🐱 Mine prefer the boxes over the wrapping and any ribbon…they love ribbon! Happy New Year!

My son’s cat was also here and neither of them looked twice at the ribbon. Cats and their preferences, lol.

I don’t know, exceeding your reading goal by 19 books doesn’t sound like a crappy year to me! I’m happy you had a nice Christmas, Teri. I love that you have a “nerd cabinet!”

Reading was definitely one of the best parts of this year, Jill. I’m quite proud of my nerd cabinet – hubby just laughs.

It was a big relief for us. He never developed symptoms, but with this virus that doesn’t always mean anything. Hope yours was wonderful, Sue!

Sounds like a good Christmas in spite of it all. You did well with your reading this year. Congrats. I read 4 more books than I aimed for so I was happy. Happy reading in 2021.

Looked like Dot had a happy Christmas from your pics on Instagram, Darlene! Seems like a lot of folks read more than usual this year – not a bad thing.

It sounds like a good Christmas, Teri. I learned what Funkopops were this Christmas as my niece is collecting them. She went to a lot of trouble to tell me which ones she wanted and where to get them.

My oldest son has a pretty extensive collection – lots of Marvel and DC. There are a ton of them out there – seems like every movie or TV show character has one.

So I guess we’ll just give him paper and boxes in the future, Sophie – much cheaper anyway, lol.

I’m glad your husband got a negative test result and that you got to spend some Christmas time with good friends. Our cats aren’t interested in wrapping paper, but our dog sure is!

We were thrilled he was negative – we didn’t know until nearly the last minute if we’d be by ourselves or with friends and family. That’s funny about your dog – a new one for me, lol.

How wonderful to receive a negative COVID test! That in and of itself is a great Christmas present! It’s so strange how this virus picks and chooses who to infect. It’s almost like it has some sort of intellect. Fantastic gifts! And congrats on exceeding your Goodreads reading goal. I think we all may have done that given the year of hunkering down and staying home. 🙂 I wish you and yours a very Happy New Year!

It was the best Christmas present we could have gotten, Jan – such a relief. We’re the third couple I know where the virus only infected one partner – so strange. Happy New Year to you and your family!

Small company seems to be the theme these holidays, Lola, and that’s fine with us. I know I’ll be toasting for a better 2021 this week!

Glad you had a lovely Christmas – especially glad for your hubby’s negative test result!
I’m also glad Bond enjoyed the wrapping paper and other gifts Santa Paws left him. 😉
I’m reading the last book I need to complete my Goodreads challenge. I’ll finish it in time though. It’s fine. Just unusual for me to be cutting it so close.

Next year we’ll let Santa know just to leave the paper, lol. This time last year I was reading shorter books to reach my goal and just missed it by a couple. Not a problem at all this year.

Sounds like a wonderful holiday. Otto appreciated the boxes more than his toys, and made sure they all got thoroughly chewed up. He likes his new blankie though, and brings it to me to wrap around him.

Sounds like you can also skip the toys, Craig. But that’s so sweet about the blankie.

I’m glad you had a wonderful Christmas, Teri. I didn’t realize you were so close to Nashville (scary Christmas there!), do you run into many big stars?
Happy New Years!

With most of the Nashville stars being in country music, I wouldn’t know one if they showed up for dinner, lol. Hubby is a country music fan, but I listen to hard rock and alt rock – opposite ends of the spectrum. Happy New Year, Jacquie!

We were really lucky, Sue. If he’d been positive, it would have been just the two of us for Christmas and NYE.
