#Graduation, #AmWatching, and Appreciation

Indulge me a moment while I play the role of proud mom.  My oldest son, while working full time for most of the past two years, earned his master’s degree.  The program was online and wasn’t without its difficulties.  Some of the professors were more responsive and organized than others.  This last one had issues with time management, so the window for receiving thesis feedback and making changes was much smaller than initially stated.  But he finished!  Like millions of people, he was laid off from his job a couple months ago, but has thankfully had some promising interviews over the past few weeks.  Keep your fingers crossed!

Has anyone watched Locke and Key on Netflix?  It’s an adaptation of a series of graphic novels by Joe Hill and Gabriel Rodriguez.  A Facebook friend mentioned it and the description sounded right up my alley – a family moving to their deceased father’s childhood home in a small coastal town, mysterious goings on and plenty of secrets in said house, and keys with some freaky powers.  It completely captivated me, and I flew through all ten episodes.  The young actors do a fantastic job, and it’s already been renewed for a second season.  Recommend!

Hubby and I watched The Wrong Missy on Netflix over the weekend.  I think Rotten Tomatoes score of 33% was generous.  Not one I’d recommend unless you’ve binged everything else and you’re at the bottom of the barrel for choices.

Shout out to all the healthcare folks and essential workers for everything you do to keep this country going.  We appreciate you!

  1. Congratulations to your son, Teri! Wishing him much success with his job hunting. Yesterday, our neighborhood had a parade for the graduates, both high school and college. The turnout was huge. It was quite emotional to see. I’ve never seen Locke and Key. I’m probably the only person alive who doesn’t watch Netflix. 🙂

    1. Thanks, Jill! Our neighborhood also had something for the graduates this weekend. I can’t imagine missing senior prom and graduation, but I hope these tributes help a little. And you may be the first person I’ve come across who doesn’t watch Netflix, lol.

  2. A huge congratulations to your son. That is awesome, Teri. I hope his job search goes well, and like many people, he can get back to work.

Locke n Key sounds right up my alley, too. I need to resubscribe to Netflix and catch up on some viewing. I finally just caught Rocketman and Yesterday on a Watchathon my cable company was running over the weekend. Enjoyed them both.

    1. Thanks, Mae! I watched Rocketman months back and really enjoyed it – the actor did a superb job. Haven’t watched Yesterday, but I highly recommend resubscribing to Netflix. You’d love Locke and Key.

  3. Congrats to your son, Teri. It’s such a weird time and good for him for focusing and getting done what he needed to do! The work picture is strange too… I hope he lands something that will give him an income while also keeping him safe. I still worry about my daughter even though she’s 37!
And I’m a Locke and Key fan. Binged the first season and waiting for more. 🙂 We’re looking for another binge-worthy Netflix series. 🙂

    1. If you’re looking for something and funny (and a little off), try Schitt’s Creek. I binge-watched that one straight through. At first, I was embarrassed to admit I was watching it, tbh, but give it a chance. It’s good. 😉

    2. Thanks, Diana! Definitely a weird time to job hunt. All of his interviews have been phone or video, but one company insisted he come to the office for the first interview and he declined. Totally get you still worrying about your daughter!

Although Locke and Key has already been given a second season, I just wonder how long it will be before they can release it – I can’t wait! The Witcher and the second season of Altered Carbon are next on my list.

  4. Congratulations, Teri! To your son and to you. I can feel for him. I got my BS (telecommunications management) late in life (working full time, and taking more than a full class load). Six months before graduation the telecommunications industry had a bubble-burst a lot like the “.com burst”… Every major company in the tri-state area had massive layoffs. So a new grad (but too old for anyone to care about giving a break), I was suddenly over qualified for anything I previously did, yet fighting experienced white collar execs for entry level t-com jobs. I hate to think about what is happening now… A huge hug to him and to you.
Locke and Key is my new Netflix favorite! The first episode had me looking over my shoulder for days! LOL (I don’t binge watch, so that stuck with me for a while!) I thought The October Faction was going to be great, but not so much… I was happy to see Diablero get another season. It’s still great. Hugs on the wing!

    1. That had to be so frustrating for you, Teagan, especially after all the work you put into it! And he and I will take those hugs, lol.

I’m not familiar with either of those shows, but I’ll be definitely looking them up. Always looking for new things to add to the queue. Have a great week!

    1. Thanks so much, Jacquie! He and several other students “met” online and helped each other out when guidance from the professors was lacking, so at least they had some support. HIs undergrad is in geology and the master’s is in geographic information systems technology.

  5. Congratulations to your son! 🎓🎉 And to you, proud mama!

I did start watching Locke and Key with my 13-yr-old. I thought it was going to be a show for younger kids so it was very awkward during some of the scenes in the first episode (especially the woman in the well). Gah! But, other than that, we liked it. Haven’t watched any more though.

    1. Thanks, Sarah! Yep – I also thought it was geared toward younger teens and up, but there were definitely some awkard scenes, lol. If I remember correctly, there’s another that may be similar, but it’s around episode 7 or 8 I think?

Congratulations to your son!! That’s wonderful! 🙂

Have you watched The OA? It’s on Netflix – I think you might dig it. We’re watching the first season now.

        1. I doubt this one will get a PhD. But my youngest? I had to convince him to stay in school in 4th grade, we battled over homework every night, and he complained about going to school every day. Now, he’s the one who wants to get a PhD.
