“Evil’s comin’, boy…comin’ fast. Look for the man with eyes like winter skies, and hair like a crow’s wing. He’s the one you gotta find.”
The remote mountain wilderness of North Carolina swallowed up the ten-year-old boy as he made his way down from the primitive camp where his grandparents had kept him hidden all his life. His dying grandmother, gifted with The Sight, set him on a quest to find the Good People, and though he is filled with fear and wary of civilization, Rabbit is determined to keep his promise to her. When he crosses paths with Sarah and MacKenzie Cole, neither their lives nor his, are ever the same again.
The extraordinary little boy called Rabbit has the power to change the world for everyone he meets, and the resourcefulness to save himself from the one person his grandparents had hoped would never find him. His dangerous and bittersweet journey will touch you in unexpected ways, and once you’ve let Rabbit into your heart, you’ll never forget him.
Is it possible to join a fictional family? I’d love to join this one and live in the mountains of NC.
Several other readers’ reviews have mentioned how Rabbit stole their heart – I’m no exception. He’s such a wonderful character – wise beyond his years despite his limited education, empathetic, loving, appreciative, and an excellent judge of character. He’s an old soul in the body of a 10-year-old boy, and I just wanted to hug him and protect him from the world.
I was so excited to be back with Mac and Sarah, who I got to know in the first book, as well as Rosheen and Handsome. They’re two of my favorite furry characters, and I adored how quickly Rosheen took to Rabbit and felt so protective of him.
Parts of Rabbit’s story are tragic, but overall, this is a heart-warming, feel-good read with some pretty suspenseful moments and magnificent character development. I can’t wait to continue the series.
Oh, I love it when a character has that kind of impact. Rabbit sounds wonderful. Thanks for sharing your review!

He really was, Priscilla. So many reviews mentioned Rabbit, and it was easy to see why after meeting him. He’ll steal your heart.

If you get a chance to check out Rabbit’s story, I hope you’ll enjoy it,Priscilla. Life on the Ridge is unpredictable at best, but it’s always a treat to visit there, even when the wake-robins aren’t in bloom. Just ask Rabbit. He’ll tell ya. 😀 Thanks for stopping by today and checking out Teri’s wonderful review. 🙂

Wow, what a great review, Teri!! I’m so happy you enjoyed the book and that Rabbit was able to pull you under his spell! He’s been the most fun to write of all my characters, and I don’t want to make you jealous or anything, but he lives in my head, talking to me all the time. He makes pronouncements about things he sees in “this here world” that I have to jot down so I’ll remember them for the next book. And I have to confess, I’d miss him like crazy if he weren’t up there talking to me every day. 😀
Thank you for your kind words and for wanting to protect Rabbit from the bad folks out there. And I hope you enjoy the rest of the series (to date) when you get a chance to read them. Sharing this, for sure!! 🙂 ❤

Yep – I’m jealous. I’d love to hear his observations about “this here world”, Marcia. I bet some of them are pretty entertaining. I book 3 in the TBR – hoping to get to it soon!

Well, I confess, I never know what that boy’s gonna say! 😀 But I do try to keep track of his comments, since sometimes they sound pretty profound to me. 😀 😀 😀

Rabbit stole my heart, too, Teri. And as I went through the series, I only fell for him harder. One of my favorite characters ever.
Great to see Marcia’s work highlighted here.

Thank you, Staci. I’m truly pleased you feel that way about him. He’s a joy to write about, for sure, and I hope I’ll be able to share even more of his “old-soul wisdom” in the future. I just need to help Jake, Dodger, and Azrael get this Emissary idea sorted out, then pop into Riverbend again to see what those folks are up to, and THEN I can take a trip to Wake-Robin Ridge again. 😀 Thanks so much for stopping by today!

I enjoyed all the books about Rabbit, such an original character, children don’t often get to be the star of adult novels.

Very true, Janet. In this case, Rabbit stole the show as well as readers’ hearts, lol.

I didn’t intend for him to become the star, either, Janet. He just climbed down off of his remote mountain and stole the whole series. 😀 But I don’t think it could have turned out better, not only for those folks living on the Ridge, but for everyone he comes in contact with. And I’m so glad you enjoyed his stories. 🙂 Thanks for stopping by and taking a moment to comment. 🙂

Rabbit is an awesome character and Wake Robin Ridge is a fabulous series. I am a huge fan, especially of that little boy. He stole my heart the first time he appeared on the page. Congrats to Marcia for another excellent review . For anyone who hasn’t read this book, they’re missing out on one of the most original characters I’ve encountered in fiction.

Absolutely agree, Mae. I’ve recommended this series to friends, and one of them just finished the first book. She has no idea what she’s in for with this second book.

Wow, what a great thing to say, Mae! On behalf of Little Rabbit, I thank you SO much! For a character who came to me in a “dream,” he’s certainly turned out to be popular, and I love him as much as anyone else. He’s very real to me.
So glad you’ve enjoyed the series and spending time with Rabbit. Thanks for stopping by today and taking a few minutes to comment, too. 🙂

Today started off on a super good note with a wonderful review of A Boy Named Rabbit by Teri Polen. Hope you’ll stop by her blog and check it out, and will consider passing it along, so others might learn more about this book, too. Rabbit will thank you, and so will I! Like the others who’ve read this amazing book and met Rabbit, my heart was stolen by him, too. I’ve also asked if I can be adopted by his loving, supportive, amusing parents. Once you’ve come across Rabbit you’re captivated and, if you’re like me, you’ll eagerly await each new book as his story develops. One of the best characters ever! x

You know, I think Rosheen and Handsome were neglected a little bit in the last two books. (There, but not as central as they might have been.) I’ll have to be sure they get their moments in the spotlight, too, going forward. Thanks for the reminder. All my characters have pets, by the way, except the worst ones, because I think their chosen companions help define who they are. And it’s fun to include them. 🙂 Glad you’ve enjoyed them, so far.
Funny aside. I’ve always been primarily a cat person, though I love all animals, pretty much. And I often said that if I ever got a dog, I’d go straight to the top and get an Irish wolfhound. So when I finally DID get a dog, guess what I got? A dachshund. Close, right???? 😀 😀 😀

Aw, thanks so much, Trish! I’m so glad you love Rabbit & Crew that much. I do enjoy my visits with them, too. (They take me along on every adventure, you know! 😀 ) And there will be more ahead for them in one fashion or another, if things go as planned. The team has grown, and I want to revisit some of the new characters in a few more tales.
Thanks so much for stopping by and taking the time to comment. Rabbit appreciates it, too! 😀 ❤

I hope you’ll enjoy it when you have a chance to read it, Diana. WWR was my first effort, and since I hadn’t planned on more, I really crammed it full of stuff. When folks asked for a series, I had no idea where I wanted to go until Rabbit showed up wanting his story told–and then never went away! He’s so much fun to write, I’m glad folks have taken him into their hearts. 😀 Thanks for stopping by and taking a moment to comment. I’ll be interested in your thoughts if you have a chance to read about the folks on the Ridge one day. 🙂 ❤

Disciplined? What means this word “disciplined?” 😀
Seriously, I know what you mean, Diana. I doubt I will EVER catch up with all the reading I want to do. I’d need a comfy chair, a never-ending bowl of snacks, and unlimited hours on end. *Sigh* What a dream. 😀
