WWW Wednesday is a meme from Sam at Taking On A World Of Words
The Three Ws are:
What are you currently reading?
What did you recently finish reading?
What do you think you’ll read next?
I just started reading Havenfall (Havenfall #1) by Sara Holland. And I mean just – I’m on page 5. I haven’t read this author before, but I like the sound of the description. Beautiful cover.
A safe haven between four realms. The girl sworn to protect it–at any cost.
Hidden deep in the mountains of Colorado lies the Inn at Havenfall, a sanctuary that connects ancient worlds–each with their own magic–together. For generations, the inn has protected all who seek refuge within its walls, and any who disrupt the peace can never return.
For Maddie Morrow, summers at the inn are more than a chance to experience this magic first-hand. Havenfall is an escape from reality, where her mother sits on death row accused of murdering Maddie’s brother. It’s where Maddie fell in love with handsome Fiorden soldier Brekken. And it’s where one day she hopes to inherit the role of Innkeeper from her beloved uncle.
But this summer, the impossible happens–a dead body is found, shattering everything the inn stands for. With Brekken missing, her uncle gravely injured, and a dangerous creature on the loose, Maddie suddenly finds herself responsible for the safety of everyone in Havenfall. She’ll do anything to uncover the truth, even if it means working together with an alluring new staffer Taya, who seems to know more than she’s letting on. As dark secrets are revealed about the inn itself, one thing becomes clear to Maddie–no one can be trusted, and no one is safe . . .
Monday night I finished Thunderhead (Arc of a Scythe #2) by Neal Shusterman. I’d heard the ending would rip my heart out – and it nearly did. I think my mouth was hanging open the last 10-20% of the book. Luckily, the third book is out, and I won’t have to wait a year to see what happens.
Rowan has gone rogue, and has taken it upon himself to put the Scythedom through a trial by fire. Literally. In the year since Winter Conclave, he has gone off-grid, and has been striking out against corrupt scythes—not only in MidMerica, but across the entire continent. He is a dark folk hero now—“Scythe Lucifer”—a vigilante taking down corrupt scythes in flames.
Citra, now a junior scythe under Scythe Curie, sees the corruption and wants to help change it from the inside out, but is thwarted at every turn, and threatened by the “new order” scythes. Realizing she cannot do this alone—or even with the help of Scythe Curie and Faraday, she does the unthinkable, and risks being “deadish” so she can communicate with the Thunderhead—the only being on earth wise enough to solve the dire problems of a perfect world. But will it help solve those problems, or simply watch as perfection goes into decline?
I have several ARCs I need to get to, and I’ve had this one since October – that tells you how behind I am. Anything that looks creepy gets me excited – and this cover does the job.
From the creators of the #1 bestseller The Box Under The Bed horror anthology and its #1 bestseller sequel Dark Visions, comes Nightmareland
A horror anthology with 23 stories from 14 authors.
A high school girl with something to prove to herself and possibly to her parents, goes to a rundown shack deep in the woods to try a new drug that will give her the worst nightmares of her young life. A “Nightmareland” injection opens a person’s biggest fears to them – and then you are on your own for however long it lasts. Tag along as she becomes a lost child on a Florida party island, an investigator looking into a circus’ bizarre side shows, an abused prisoner, and much more.
Compiled by USA Today bestselling author Dan Alatorre, this anthology of horror once again unites the minds and pens of more than a dozen amazing authors.
Curious to read how you find Nightmareland. Horror is the only real genre of anthology that catches my attention, if it’s not already a well-known work or has a big name attached. Happy reading!

I’ve read a few short stories by some of these authors in the anthology, so I’m pretty optimistic – keep watch for my review!

I think I’ve pretty much decided only to start series when all of the books are out. I hate the wait between books.
I have an inkling that I’ve read something by Sara Holland but can’t remember what. It does sound intriguing. Will be interested in your thoughts.

I should really start taking that approach, Ali. I get excited and can’t wait to buy the book, but then I have so many ahead of it, by the time I get around to reading it, the sequel is usually out.

Haven Fall gives me a kind of John Wick vibe as far as the hotel that’s neutral territory. I’ll watch for your review.

Ack! I didn’t even think of that, but it does sound similar to The Continental.

Is Nightmareland geared toward YA? It looks interesting…

It’s not classified as YA, but maybe it’s a mix of stories since a high school girl is mentioned. I thought this one would catch your eye, Sue.

This week I’m working on catching up on The Waste Lands by Stephen King and then after that I will be starting something from my February TBR but I’m not sure which book I will read first.

I’m still so far behind on my King books. I’m embarrassed to say how long it’s been since I’ve read one of his.

I only started reading his books in 2018 so I’m behind as well but I’m slowly making my way through them.

I’m about 35% into Havenfall right now and really liking it – lots of nefarious things going on. And I’m soooo glad I don’t have to wait for the third book – doubt I would have made it, Sammie.

It was touch and go for me sometimes. I might have wailed to the sky more than once. Screamed into the void. Questioned existence. xD That sounds fantastic! Glad to hear you’re enjoying it so far.
