Wasn’t it just Monday? Seems like it to me, but here we are again. Other than blog posts and book reviews, I haven’t been writing. I owe an interview and a guest post to a couple of people (I’m working on them today, Marcia and Tori!), but nothing on the sequel to Subject A36 yet. Still, that hasn’t stopped me from thinking about the plot and characters. Lots of things floating around in my brain.
On recommendations from a friend (thanks, Diana!) and my brother-in-law, I started watching The Expanse on Amazon Prime. One of the leads, Steven Strait, I remember from Sky High, a cute movie my boys watched years ago. The story involved a high school for superheroes and their sidekicks, and Strait played Warren Peace (get it?). I’m about seven episodes in and already hooked.
Hubby was at a work function Saturday night, so I decided to watch Marriage Story on Netflix and see what all the fuss was about. It’s received numerous award nominations, and I’m a fan of both Adam Driver and Scarlett Johansson. Every one of those nominations is well-deserved. Both actors turned in powerful, phenomenal performances, and I was captivated. Watch it if you get a chance.
I’ve got another excerpt from Subject A36 for you today – only a few more weeks until release! In this scene, two Insurgents were due back from a supply run hours ago, and Asher hasn’t heard from them. They’ve never deviated from protocol in the past, and Ash has to make a decision on what to do.
It was time to take action. Just as I was ready to gather a search party, the low growl of a motor reached my ears. The glow of headlights splashed over me as a truck bounced along the dirt road leading to our compound. Relief flooded through me. Paige, Jonah, and I rushed over to meet them.
My relief melted away when I noticed the reckless manner of the driver. The truck swayed from side to side and changed speeds erratically. I grabbed Paige’s arm to pull her out of its path just before it jolted to a stop.
The driver remained a mystery until the door flung open and moonlight fell upon Mason’s close-cropped copper hair. He tumbled from the driver’s seat, gripping the doorframe as he struggled to stay on his feet. An inky blackness dripped from his hairline and trickled down his face.
Blood.
I’m glad you’re enjoying The Expanse. We actually stuck with it, and that’s saying something. 🙂 Exciting excerpt, Teri. I can’t wait to get my hands on your new book. 🙂

Thanks, Diana! I’m watching it by myself – not hubby’s cup of tea, and he sticks with very few shows. I can only think of two, honestly.

It gets better as it goes on.

Feels to me like it was just Monday too, so it’s not just you.
*two thumbs up re the interview*
Really glad the book is coming out soon. It looks like it’s going to be another amazing read from you. Not that I’m surprised. “Sarah” is one of the few books to give me chills ever, and “The Gemini Connection” was awesome too.
I remember watching “Sky High” before. It was a cute movie, I agree. Haven’t seen “The Expanse” though. Might check it out, when I have time. “Marriage Story” too, perhaps. Argh! My to-watch list is catching up with my to-read list. If you’ve seen how long that is on Goodreads, you’ll know why thinking about that makes me say, “Argh!”

Tori, you just made my day with your comments about Sarah and TGC – thanks so much!
I know what you mean about the to-watch list. It’s not nearly as long as my TBR, but it has several items. Have a great week!

You’re welcome, though I was just being honest. You have a great week too. 🙂

Every day is turning out to be either monday or thursday. Blink and it’s monday. Blink and it’s thursday – and so the cycle goes on.
The expanse…. I don’t think you’re talking about James S.A. corey’s series, are you?
And that’s a cliff hanger you threw there – I’m curious.

It is Corey’s series – I remember seeing it in the credits. I haven’t read the books, but I think there are about four seasons to the series, so it’s doing pretty well.
If you’re curious, I’ve done my job, lol.

Ah, I’ve read up to book 5 – there are currently 9, and soon, hopefully, I’ll read the other 4.
Yes, that’s a catching excerpt. I’m curious to know why Mayson is bleeding.

How many books are you planning on writing in this series? I’m so excited!!!

Unless my characters tell me different, there are only 2 books in the series, Jonny. I’d only planned for a duology, but I’ve heard other writers have gone into a series with plans for a certain number of books only to have the characters change everything.

That’s true, you never know what will happen. I certainly never intended on Reaper having a sequel.

Another great excerpt, Teri!
I have Amazon Prime. I’ll have to give a looksee!

Thanks, Mae! You should check it out. I think my BIL was right when he said to stick with it for around 6 episodes. A lot of worldbuilding is going on, and now things are really starting to come together.

That ending, black stuff running down his face, is terrific, Teri. It makes sense to take a break from writing before starting the next one.

With the holidays and promoting A36, I really haven’t been able to sit down and add much to the word count. I’m planning on making part of February and into March my personal NaNo.

Oh, an intriguing excerpt! And I agree, wasn’t it just Monday? Can’t beleive we’re already on the latter half of January.

Thanks, Joan! Last week flew by. Next thing you know, it will be July and stores will start putting out Christmas supplies again, lol.

Nice excerpt, lost of intrigue. I didn’t get a lot done either. Not in the new words department. In other ways I was fairly productive. Maybe next weekend.

I’ve decided to just work on promos right now, and get back to the book in February. That’s the best I can manage.

I have some of that ahead of me, too. If only there were more hours available.

I keep telling myself I’m going to read the books before watching the Expanse and still hasn’t happened! Maybe I should start the show and see if that gets me into the books? 😉
Marriage Story was great! I wasn’t sure what to expect but really thought it was worth it!

I generally prefer to read the books first, but with my TBR, it’s not going to happen. If your list is like mine, maybe you’d also be better off just starting the show, lol.
I really wasn’t sure what to expect either, but the performances were outstanding. And seeing Alan Alda again was a real treat.
