It’s crunch time, guys. I’ve taken off the next four days from work to finish Book 3 (and maybe even come up with a title), and get it into my beta’s hands by Friday. Last week, I was writing the ending, and my MC surprised me by changing some things – which really worked better, and were more true to his character. Whenever that happens, I usually just go with it. I know there are a couple more scenes that need work, then I’ll be adding in some world-building, and tweaking some of the characters. If I’m slow to reply to comments or get to your blogs, you’ll know I’m hunkered down working.
Maybe six weeks ago, I mentioned I’d applied for Heartland Book Festival, scheduled for September. This will be the first year, with Friday being Children’s Day, and Saturday open to the public. I was thrilled to receive an email accepting me! It’s only an hour away, and I’m always excited to talk to kids about reading – adults, too, of course. Heck – I’m excited to talk to anyone about reading and books anytime, anywhere.
Is anyone else excited for NOS4A2? I recorded it last night, but haven’t watched it yet. I’ve had the book in my TBR for more years than I care to admit, but – it’s vampires. I’m so excited to watch vampires again! Well, I also just finished What We Do in the Shadows, a hilarious take on vampires. If you missed it, go forth and find it. Some episodes were better than others, but I had some great laughs.
Wish me luck on finishing. Have a great week!
Good luck on finishing, and yay for getting into the book festival!

Thanks, Priscilla! I’d really excited about the festival, and I love how the organizers involve the schools – such a good idea.

I recorded NOS4A2 and when I woke in the middle of the night (as usual) I decided to watch it. It was an hour and fifteen minutes, and I only got through an hour. (I fell asleep again.) It’s not what I expected, but I’m going to try a couple more episodes before making my final judgment. Can’t wait to hear what you think. (And RIP The Passage.)
Good luck with finishing “Untitled” and congratulations on getting accepted to the festival!

I’m still upset over The Passage. It was so compelling, I can’t believe it was canceled. I’ll let you know what I think. If I enjoy it, that’s practically the seal of cancellation, lol.

Yeah, that’s the kiss of death from me, too. If I hate it, though, it’ll set longevity records.

BTW, I watched the last 15 minutes last night. They were the best 15 minutes of the show.

Congratulations on having the finish line in sight, Teri! Good luck with wrapping it all up, too. Wish I could say my WIP is at that stage, too, but alas. You are far ahead of me, and more power to you!
I gave up tv six years ago when I started writing. It was eating into my reading time, and I no longer have enough of that as it is. *sigh* OH, for more hours in a day! Hope you enjoy NOS4A2. It’s been on my Kindle for several years, but I’ve been hangin’ with wizards and dragons and magic lately, so I’m saving this one for when I’m in the right mood to enjoy it. 🙂
Here’s to your new book and to finishing it all up just the way you want it! 🙂 ❤

Thanks, Marcia! I know what you mean about TV eating into reading time. There’s not much I watch regularly anymore, and when hubby’s out of town, the TV isn’t on very often at night.

Oh, I forgot the book festival, too. Congratulations on that, as well! Hope you have a wonderful experience! 🙂

Congrats on being accepted to the book festival, Teri. I hope you have an awesome time. I’m also sending you lots of positive energy to finish your book on time. O love when characters do the unexpected!

I’ll take all the positive energy I can get, Mae! And what my MC decided to do was perfect for that scene.

I decided to skip it. The promos didn’t appeal to me. I rarely use my recorder, but Thinner came on about bed time last night. I’ll be watching that sometime this week. (It’s been stuck in my head since writing one of my Story Empire posts.)

I remember reading Thinner years ago, but don’t think I’ve ever seen the movie. Need to find that one.

Good luck with finishing the book. I love it when the MC takes over and helps you create what you want! I’m working toward the end of my WIP and have no idea where it is going. Great news about the book festival too. I love them.

Thanks, Darlene! What he came up with was so much better than what I’d originally had in mind. Good luck back at you with your new Amanda (I’m assuming?) book.

Congratulations on being accepted for the book festival. Good luck finishing the book. I just go with it when characters do that too. Mind you, I’m a pantster, so that’s how my stories come together anyhow.

Thanks, Tori! I’m kind of a split between a plotter and a pantster. I’ll have a flexible outline, but if the characters take it in a different direction, I’ll follow. They haven’t let me down yet.

I didn’t even know NOS4A2 was being adapted.

Yep – it’s on AMC, with Zachary Quinto (a fav of mine) in the lead role.

I want be able to watch it unless it becomes available on Netflix or something.

People complain about their characters back-talking them, but I think the character is almost always right. After you’ve worked with them for that long, they do speak more directly from your subconscious mind.
Besides, surprises are good, whether you planned them all along or the character sprang them on you.

I agree, Deby – the characters always seem to lead me down a better path. I’d urge other writers to trust them and see where they lead.
