Calendar Girl is a monthly meme now hosted by Katie@nevernotreading and Adrienne @darquedreamer
The Calendar Girls is a monthly blog event that was created by Melanie at MNBernard Books, and Flavia at Flavia the Bibliophile. It was inspired by the 1961 classic song by Neil Sedaka and created to ignite fun bookish discussions among readers and bloggers.
Each month we get a new theme and choose our favorite book for the theme. The participants get to vote for their favorite.
The other fun piece to The Calendar Girls group is the Twitter chat. On the 3rd Sunday of each month, at 8 p.m. EST, Katie and Adrienne will host a chat with hashtag #CGBChat, where everyone can participate and gif away. They will get the ball rolling by asking a question or two about the theme or the picks of the month to get everyone chatting. The hashtag will be used in all tweets, so you can see all the fun!
This is a difficult category for me. Not because I don’t have a release I’m looking forward to – it’s that there are so many I’m stupid excited about and can’t wait to get my greedy, impatient hands on. For me, it’s sequels to some of my favorite YA sci-fi/fantasy series. The Gilded Wolves #2 by Roshani Choksi, which still doesn’t have a cover or release date (although I’m hoping for late 2019). The Diabolic #3 by S.J. Kincaid – no cover, but Goodreads lists a release date of July 2019. The ending of The Empress (Diabolic #2) ripped my heart out, and is literally the only book I’ve ever had to put down and walk away from because of the emotions it evoked. If I knew Six of Crows #3 by Leigh Bardugo was coming out in 2019, I’d be tempted to sell my soul to get an advance copy. Alas, there’s no publication date or title yet.
All of these either don’t have covers or confirmed release dates, but another of my much anticipated releases does, and it’s King of Fools (The Shadow Game #2) by Amanda Foody. The first book in this series, Ace of Shades (The Shadow Game #1) was one of my top reads last year – immersive world-building, mesmerizing, flawed, diverse characters, life or death stakes – all done masterfully. If you’re a fan of YA fantasy, don’t miss this one.
Indulge your vices in the City of Sin, where a sinister street war is brewing and fame is the deadliest killer of them all…
On the quest to find her missing mother, prim and proper Enne Salta became reluctant allies with Levi Glaisyer, the city’s most famous con man. Saving his life in the Shadow Game forced Enne to assume the identity of Seance, a mysterious underworld figure. Now, with the Chancellor of the Republic dead and bounties on both their heads, she and Levi must play a dangerous game of crime and politics…with the very fate of New Reynes at stake.
Thirsting for his freedom and the chance to build an empire, Levi enters an unlikely partnership with Vianca Augustine’s estranged son. Meanwhile, Enne remains trapped by the mafia donna’s binding oath, playing the roles of both darling lady and cunning street lord, unsure which side of herself reflects the truth.
As Enne and Levi walk a path of unimaginable wealth and opportunity, new relationships and deadly secrets could quickly lead them into ruin. And when unforeseen players enter the game, they must each make an impossible choice: To sacrifice everything they’ve earned in order to survive…
Or die as legends.
Another big list for you. Seems like you’re going to have a good reading year!

It’s definitely a big year for sequels, Staci. But is it really ever a bad reading year, lol?

King of Fools sounds like a good series! I have to read The Gilded Wolves #1. It’s on NetGalley, but I have myself restricted lol. It sounds so good though!! ❤ Hope you enjoy everything you read this year.

Totally understand about restriction, Jenn. I promised myself I’d cut back on NetGalley and had good intentions, but once I see all those books, it’s hard to show any kind of restraint. The Gilded Wolves is such a fantastic book – get to that one ASAP!

I’m super excited to know there is going to be a Six of Crows #3! It and Crooked Kingdom were HUGE favorites of mine, and I would be right there with you, selling my soul! Thanks for the update and for recommending the Shadow Game series. I’ll be checking it out. Yours is on my TBR pile, as well. OH, for more reading time in 2019!!!
Happy New Year, Teri!

I’m honored to be on your TBR, Marcia! Can’t tell you how excited I was when I heard there would be a third book in the Six of Crows series. I keep waiting for someone to snatch up the movie rights. If you find some extra reading time, how about sharing some of it with me? Happy New Year!

I have you (along with several other online author/friends) stacked right at the top of my (virtual) teetering pile of books, Teri, and I really hope to get through ALL of them over the next couple of months. I’m trying to organize my work in a way that lets me regain some of the reading time I had before I started writing. (NEVER going to be like it used to be, where I went through at least 3 or 4 books a week). I’m really looking forward to it, though, and I won’t forget you, I promise! 😀

I have the same idea about reorganizing my schedule. With me, it’s about setting time limits for things on a daily basis. I might be busy, but am I really accomplishing anything? We’ll see how it works.

Wait, wait, wait, wait….There is going to be a SoC book 3?!?!?!? Where did you find that out? OMG!!!
And, I totally need to read Ace of Shades soon!

I know, right? Take a deep breath, Adrienne, then rush to Goodreads and add it To Read. And you absolutely need to read Ace of Shades – the world-building is very similar to SoC.

Eeek! Need it now!! Oh, my heart! Lol.

Wow, that would be a rough one to pick just a single book for. It sounds like you’ve got plenty of reading lined up, Teri. Enjoy!

I do – now I just need to find the time to read them all!

Yes yes I am with Adrienne here above: SoC three???? And I have seen (but not read yet) Ace of Shades

Can’t even remember how I heard about it, Sophie, but I was thrilled. I got an ARC of Ace of Shades earlier last year, then was lucky enough to meet the author in October when we were at the same book fest and got a signed copy. Soooo good.

King of Fools does sound very good, Teri. Sounds like a fun book discussion group to be part of.

I enjoy seeing what the other participants choose, Robbie – then struggle to add some of their choices to my TBR.

I’,m hoping to get to The Gilded Wolves next week so very happy to hear there is a sequel all ready on the way! Now you make me want to give The Diabolic another try LOL

Hope you enjoy The Gilded Wolves as much as I did, Daniela – and that cover! You should definitely try The Diabolic again. The Empress had so many twists and unexpected turns – the things the author put her characters through – I get upset just thinking about it again, lol.

I will try it again then! Ty Teri!

I love when GoodReads sends out its new releases for the month, it’s like a big jar of candy!
There are a couple of new BDB stories from J.R. Ward that I can’t wait to get my grubby hands on, lol.

Oh, so many good books to look forward to. Six of Crows #3! I was on a Leigh Bardugo binge in December and didn’t know there was a #3. And I have to read Diabolic. If it ripped your heart out, Teri, I want mine ripped out too. 😀 Happy Reading!

Having your heart ripped out along with mine? That’s the sign of a true friend, Diana! It’s such an outstanding series – plot twists like I’ve never seen.

I bought the first in the series right away. I won’t start it for awhile, but I didn’t want to forget about it. Aah, you’re burying me in books, Teri, but what a great feeling.

Hope you love it as much as I did, Diana. Know what you mean about not being able to get to it for a while. So many I’m anxious to get to!

It’s funny, I’ve been seeing a lot of buzz for King of Fools, but I hadn’t ever heard of Ace of Shades prior to sequel buzz. Books are weird like that sometimes.

You’re right about that. I’ve come across the same thing with a few series.
