WWW Wednesday is a meme from Sam at Taking On A World Of Words
The Three Ws are:
What are you currently reading?
What did you recently finish reading?
What do you think you’ll read next?
I’m currently reading Two Dark Reigns (Three Dark Crowns #3) by Kendare Blake. This is a wildly imaginative dark fantasy series, and I’ve had this in my TBR since its release in September 2018. Can’t believe it’s taken me this long to get to it.
#1 New York Times bestselling author Kendare Blake returns with the highly anticipated third book in the Three Dark Crowns series! And while Arsinoe, Mirabella, and Katharine all have their own scores to settle, they aren’t the only queens stirring things up on Fennbirn Island.
Queen Katharine has waited her entire life to wear the crown. But now that she finally has it, the murmurs of dissent grow louder by the day. There’s also the alarming issue of whether or not her sisters are actually dead—or if they’re waiting in the wings to usurp the throne.
Mirabella and Arsinoe are alive, but in hiding on the mainland and dealing with a nightmare of their own: being visited repeatedly by a specter they think might be the fabled Blue Queen. Though she says nothing, her rotting, bony finger pointing out to sea is clear enough: return to Fennbirn.
Jules, too, is in a strange place—in disguise. And her only confidants, a war-gifted girl named Emilia and her oracle friend Mathilde, are urging her to take on a role she can’t imagine filling: a legion-cursed queen who will lead a rebel army to Katharine’s doorstep.
This is an uprising that the mysterious Blue Queen may have more to do with than anyone could have guessed—or expected.
I recently finished an ARC of The Deceivers (Vale Hall #1) by Kristen Simmons. Friends, this book was so good. If you’re a fan of heists, cons, morally ambiguous, determined characters, and hold-your-breath, life-threatening situations, grab it when it’s released February 5th. I loved every minute of it.
Pretty Little Liars meets Ocean’s 11 in this intrigue-filled contemporary drama from acclaimed author Kristen Simmons.
Welcome to Vale Hall, the school for aspiring con artists.
When Brynn Hilder is recruited to Vale, it seems like the elite academy is her chance to start over, away from her mom’s loser boyfriend and her rundown neighborhood. But she soon learns that Vale chooses students not so much for their scholastic talent as for their extracurricular activities, such as her time spent conning rich North Shore kids out of their extravagant allowances.
At first, Brynn jumps at the chance to help the school in its mission to rid the city of corrupt officials–because what could be better than giving entitled jerks what they deserve? But that’s before she meets her mark–a senator’s son–and before she discovers the school’s headmaster has secrets he’ll stop at nothing to protect. As the lines between right and wrong blur, Brynn begins to realize she’s in way over head.
The next book I’ll read is The Cruel Prince (The Folk of the Air #1) by Holly Black. It came out a year ago, and I’ve heard it’s phenomenal. The selection for 0ne of my book clubs this month is New Adult, a genre I don’t read a lot of, and this novel was on sale the other day. Sounds like divine intervention to me.
Of course I want to be like them. They’re beautiful as blades forged in some divine fire. They will live forever.
And Cardan is even more beautiful than the rest. I hate him more than all the others. I hate him so much that sometimes when I look at him, I can hardly breathe.
Jude was seven when her parents were murdered and she and her two sisters were stolen away to live in the treacherous High Court of Faerie. Ten years later, Jude wants nothing more than to belong there, despite her mortality. But many of the fey despise humans. Especially Prince Cardan, the youngest and wickedest son of the High King.
To win a place at the Court, she must defy him–and face the consequences.
As Jude becomes more deeply embroiled in palace intrigues and deceptions, she discovers her own capacity for trickery and bloodshed. But as betrayal threatens to drown the Courts of Faerie in violence, Jude will need to risk her life in a dangerous alliance to save her sisters, and Faerie itself.
All three of these books sound interesting, Teri. I guess the first book should be read in order of the series. I am reading Academic Curveball by James J. Cudney.

I’ve got some high expectations for it based on what friends have said. I haven’t read this author before – have another book of hers in my TBR, but haven’t gotten around to it yet. If you enjoy heists and cons, definitely read The Deceivers.

I figured it would go on sale before the release of the second book, so I’ve been trying to wait. Glad I’ll be able to get to it so soon!

I’ve still never read anything by Holly Black despite how much I’ve heard about it – maybe one for this year! Happy reading!

The Cruel Prince sounds great. I am reading White Death by Christine Morgan. It’s a horror novel/monster novel. I didn’t think I’d enjoy it as much as I do. I like it when books surprise me like that!

I couldn’t put that one down, Laurel-Rain – luckily, I can read in the car, so read most of it while traveling over the holidays.

Gave myself a two week break from most of social media, and was able to read a couple of books over the holidays. Still missed my Goodreads goal by one book, lol.

Well, hey, I’m sure you still did stellar!
I missed my goal in 2017, so cute back on the number this year.

I’ll be interested to hear what you think of The Cruel Prince – I hae tried some of Holly Black’s books before and not been that into them, but this one does sound like something I’d really like, so I’ve never been sure whether to pick it up.
