WWW Wednesday is a meme from Sam at Taking On A World Of Words
The Three Ws are:
What are you currently reading?
What did you recently finish reading?
What do you think you’ll read next?
I’m currently reading The Devil’s Thief (The Last Magician #2) by Lisa Maxwell. The first book in this series was a five star read for me – behold the awesomeness of that cover!
In this spellbinding sequel to the New York Times bestselling The Last Magician, Esta and Harte set off on a cross-country chase through time to steal back the elemental stones they need to save the future of magic.
Hunt the Stones.
Beware the Thief.
Avenge the Past.
Esta’s parents were murdered. Her life was stolen. And everything she knew about magic was a lie. She thought the Book of Mysteries held the key to freeing the Mageus from the Order’s grasp, but the danger within its pages was greater than she ever imagined.
Now the Book’s furious power lives inside Harte. If he can’t control it, it will rip apart the world to get its revenge, and it will use Esta to do it.
To bind the power, Esta and Harte must track down four elemental stones scattered across the continent. But the world outside the city is like nothing they expected. There are Mageus beyond the Brink not willing to live in the shadows—and the Order isn’t alone in its mission to crush them.
In St. Louis, the extravagant World’s Fair hides the first stone, but an old enemy is out for revenge and a new enemy is emerging. And back in New York, Viola and Jianyu must defeat a traitor in a city on the verge of chaos.
As past and future collide, time is running out to rewrite history—even for a time-traveling thief.
I recently finished The Raven Boys – again. This was for my YA book club, and the month’s selection was to re-read a book that’s stuck with you or made an impression. The Raven Boys definitely filled those requirements for me – a magical world I still think about, compelling and humorous characters that feel real, and writing that’s like prose at times.
“There are only two reasons a non-seer would see a spirit on St. Mark’s Eve,” Neeve said. “Either you’re his true love . . . or you killed him.”
It is freezing in the churchyard, even before the dead arrive.
Every year, Blue Sargent stands next to her clairvoyant mother as the soon-to-be dead walk past. Blue herself never sees them—not until this year, when a boy emerges from the dark and speaks directly to her.
His name is Gansey, and Blue soon discovers that he is a rich student at Aglionby, the local private school. Blue has a policy of staying away from Aglionby boys. Known as Raven Boys, they can only mean trouble.
But Blue is drawn to Gansey, in a way she can’t entirely explain. He has it all—family money, good looks, devoted friends—but he’s looking for much more than that. He is on a quest that has encompassed three other Raven Boys: Adam, the scholarship student who resents all the privilege around him; Ronan, the fierce soul who ranges from anger to despair; and Noah, the taciturn watcher of the four, who notices many things but says very little.
For as long as she can remember, Blue has been warned that she will cause her true love to die. She never thought this would be a problem. But now, as her life becomes caught up in the strange and sinister world of the Raven Boys, she’s not so sure anymore.
Next I’ll read the final book in a YA dystopian series with unique, incredible world-building – can’t wait to learn the secrets surrounding some of these characters – Bright Ruin (Dark Gifts #3) by Vic James.
Magically gifted aristocrats rule–and commoners are doomed to serve. But a rebellion threatens the old order. The dystopian trilogy that began with Gilded Cage and Tarnished City concludes.
In a world where the lower classes must endure ten years of forced service to unfairly advantaged, magically powered rulers, a teenage boy dreams of rebellion, his older sister yearns for love and knowledge, and a dangerous young aristocrat seeks to remake the world with his dark gifts. In Bright Ruin, the final book in the trilogy set in modern-day England, our heroes will lead a revolution that will transform–or destroy–the world.
I haven’t read any of these, Teri, but all of the covers are really appealing.

They really are – covers can do so much for a book.

I’m a firm believer of NOT judging a book by its cover. But these each spoke to me.

AAAHHH! I LOVED The Raven Boys! When you say you read The Raven Boys, you mean you read the book or the series. Because if you haven’t read the series…do. Read. ASAP. It’s amazing. Also, a new(ish) book by Maggie is a novella called Opal which is awesome but don’t read it before you finish the series…major spoilers.

I’ve read the whole series – and now I want to re-read it, but don’t know how I’ll fit it in. I nearly cried when I read Opal because I’d missed that world and those boys so much. Can’t wait for the Ronan books!

I keep seeing these books around…and I’m curious. But I’m not really a fan of magic. Sigh.
Enjoy! Thanks for sharing, and for visiting my blog.

All three of them seem to involve magic, don’t they? Didn’t notice that until you mentioned it!
