Hubby and I went on a mini-vacay this past weekend with friends. We traveled to Asheville, NC primarily to see the Chihuly Exhibit at Biltmore Estates. If you’re unfamiliar with Chihuly (as I was), he’s a glass sculptor who’s created breathtakingly beautiful works of art, as shown by the pictures below. There were several more, but I couldn’t include everything. The exhibit will be there through October 7th, so if you’re able to go, I’d highly recommend it. At night they’re lit up and I can just imagine how gorgeous they are.
We also toured the Biltmore house – I’d been there before, but one of the couples in our group hadn’t – and then went to the winery for a wine tasting. They’d added several more varieties since the last time I’d visited. Fun was had by all, and it was a very welcome break from the last couple of busy weeks.
Now for the shameless self-promo. As a reminder, The Gemini Connection ebook released last week and can be found at Amazon. The Facebook launch party was a blast, and I had tons of fun with current friends and made several new ones invited by a fellow author. If I hadn’t scheduled the posts ahead of time, it would have been nearly impossible to keep up with all the comments, so if you’re considering your own launch party, it’s something you should consider. I was able to talk with guests, while the new posts went up every ten minutes.
If you’re in the vicinity of Bowling Green, KY this Saturday, I have a book signing scheduled at Half Price Books this from 2pm-6pm. Drop by and see me!
Glad you enjoyed the exhibit, and had such a great time at your launch party.
Good luck with the book signing.

The Estate is beautiful and the views are incredible. Hard to believe it was actually a family’s house so many years ago. The amount of work and details – difficult to fathom. Hope you can visit sometime!

I’ve never seen the sculptures in person, but I have seen photos, and they’re fabulous. (The wine sounds good, too!)
Glad you had a nice trip and a fun launch party.

My friend had hoped to see a Chihuly exhibit somewhere around Kansas City? I might be wrong about that, but she wasn’t able to go. I wasn’t familiar with him, but now I’m hearing from so many people I know how much they love his work. It was a fun weekend, Staci.

Dale Chihuly is from Seattle, Washington and living in nearby Vancouver, BC we were very familiar with him and his amazing work. How wonderful that it is on display at the Biltmore Estate and that you got to see it! I can only imagine how fabulous it looks at night, lit up. So pleased your launch party was a success. All the best!

Thanks, Darlene! I just marveled at seeing his work – the imagination and creativity are mind-blowing. My parents were able to see his display in Seattle and loved it.

Thanks, Antoinette! I hadn’t been to Asheville in several years (we used to live much closer), and was excited to visit again. Wonderful restaurants, so much to do, nice people – just a great place all the way around. And much less humidity than western KY!

They were stunning, Mae. The launch party was fun, but haven’t seen any sales from it – but still met people with similar tastes in movies and books and had some wonderful discussions!

Hoping to – but you’re right about the networking. Makes a huge difference, and I still had a fantastic time talking with everyone.

That sounds wonderful, Teri. We have a Chiluly exhibit in Seattle that is gorgeous, and I love going there. I love how the pieces are integrated into the landscape. Great photos. 🙂

We wondered how the pieces are transported, Diana – they’re so delicate, and I imagine bubble wrap doesn’t do much, lol.

I thin kthat where I hit problems with it is that most of my sales come in the USA and Canada, but I live in the UK, where I sell very little, so I worry too much about a poor turnout. I am tempted to try getting a table at a larger con though.

I’ll be doing that in September in St. Louis – hear it’s a big one, so we’ll see how it goes.

I think that size may be key with them. I’m only guessing, but given table prices, I’d say tha tthe mroe potential customers the better. Will you be reporting on how the convention and signing went?
