Something kind of new on the blog. I’ve decided Mondays are for talking about what shows/movies I’ve been watching, what’s going on with my writing, pictures of my cat – just whatever jumps to the front of my brain.
I saw A Quiet Place this weekend. After seeing the trailer a few months back, it immediately went on the ‘stupid excited, please don’t suck’ list, and it didn’t disappoint. Highly original story, intense, white knuckle scenes, and incredible acting by John Krasinski and wife, Emily Blunt. Krasinski also firmly established himself as a talented director. If you’re a horror/suspense fan, this is a must see.
Hubby and I have been watching Sneaky Pete on Amazon Prime and we’re loving it (and trust me when I say it’s difficult getting hubby to watch a series). I’ve been a Giovanni Ribisi fan since he played Phoebe’s brother, Frank, on Friends, and many of the supporting actors are from Justified and The Americans, both among my fav shows. If con men, gangsters, and false identities keep your peepers glued to the screen, this one’s for you.
On the writing front, I’ve started my third book, but I’m only a chapter in so far. With the promotion for The Gemini Connection and two book festivals this month, the WIP has fallen by the wayside somewhat. My MC still hasn’t shared his full story, but he’s given me a road map to get started. Like The Gemini Connection, this could also wind up being a dual POV. Waiting for the characters to tell me, but I can see it happening.

I’ve also been waiting for this movie. Glad to hear it was as good as I thought. 🙂

Not only was the movie a unique experience, so was the audience behavior – no talking, no one leaving for restroom, not a lot of popcorn noise either. Nice for a change!

That is unusual. And given the topic, probably added to the atmosphere.

I’m looking forward to seeing A Quiet Place but I’m probably going to have to wait for the DVD. Hubby isn’t much of a movie goer anymore. We just finally saw the last Star Wars movie!

My hubby and I have different tastes when it comes to movies – I’m more accepting of a wider variety. So I go by myself to a lot of movies (Star Wars included) and don’t mind it at all.

I used to do that now and then on the weekends, but now my weekends are consumed with writing. I keep a list of what I want to see when it hits DVD. I still have to catch up with The Greatest Showman!

Teri, I like this kind of post. Great idea. You are one busy lady!
I didn’t realize A Quiet Place was suspense. Now I’m interested.
Keep writing on the new book. You’ll work it out if you keep going. Have a wonderful new week. Hugs!

Sooo suspenseful, Teagan. It’s labeled horror, but I felt like it leaned more in the suspense direction. One of my favorite phrases comes from Dory in Finding Nemo – ‘Just keep swimming’ – and that’s what I plan to do with the WIP. it’s better than sitting still, right?

Thanks, John! This is something I’d started doing in the early days of the blog, but somehow got away from it.

We saw a preview for Sneaky Pete at the movie theater and I was hooked just after those few minutes. Fabulous actors and a nail-biting storyline!

I’ve been digging Sneaky Pete too and have been a fan of Ribisi’s since around the same time. Looking forward to A Quiet Place, but I may have to wait for it to come to the small screen as my other half is not a fan of horror.

Allie, my hubby is definitely not a horror fan (to my endless disappointment, lol), but he enjoyed this movie. Maybe you can convince yours to try it.

Cool new concept to look forward to each week. I want to see that movie, and my wife does too.

You were a bit of an inspiration, Craig. Like I mentioned to John, this is something I did when I first started blogging, but somehow got away from it. Your recent NOLA post encouraged me to go back there. And the movie was one of the better ones I’ve seen in quite a while.

I’ve always held that a blog that is completely about word count and research gets boring fast. It’s important to bring a bit of personality to the site on occasion. I write about my real world all the time along with everything else.

I agree – and I don’t think my shining personality was coming through enough.

I keep reading great things about A Quiet Place. I’ve just moved back to Spain so not sure when it will get here. I managed to catch a couple of episodes of Sneaky Pete and totally agree. (I love con men stories). And good luck with your WIP!

Thanks, Olga! With everyone I know, it’s been a unanimous thumbs up on A Quiet Place. Hope you don’t have to wait too long – at least you can still watch Sneaky Pete. I think?

I have not hear of this movie, Teri, but then I don’t watch many films or much TV. Nice idea.

Emily Blunt is one of my favorite actresses… I can’t wait for the Mary Poppins movie. 👌😎

I was never much of a Mary Poppins fan, but she’s definitely a very versatile and talented actress.
