My 2016 Goodreads goal was to read 70 books – I surpassed that goal at 89 books. Good news, but only 21 of those were from my TBR pile. I didn’t even want to calculate the number I bought, but with the information below, you can see I still have a lot of work ahead of me. But is it really work to read a book? For some maybe, but for me – pure pleasure. As a comparison, when I first started keeping track on February 22, 2016, the TBR was 98. So much for reducing the danger of the towering pile.
Anyhoo, I read several over Christmas – and we’re taking a long weekend vacay later this week, so hoping to finish at least a couple more.
The Dark Army by Joseph Delaney – Enjoyed the writing, characters, and story line, but this novel didn’t grab me like I thought it would; however, I think that’s more me than the book. Not realizing it was the second in a series, I didn’t feel as invested in the characters. It wasn’t difficult to follow the plot as the author did a good job of mentioning key points from the first book in this one.
Macabre Sanctuary – an anthology – Yes…just yes. My review will be posted either this week or next.
The Eighth Day Brotherhood by Alice M. Phillips – Excellent historical thriller and the review will be posted soon.
The Risen by Adam J. Smith – Descriptive writing and a good bit of action, but with the story beginning in the middle of a zombie apocalypse, I was hoping for more answers than this book offered. Perhaps the author plans a sequel.
Will O’ the Wisp by C.S. Boyack – Enjoyable characters, suspenseful story – the full review will be posted next week.
I have a couple of books I need to finish for NetGalley before I can get back to the TBR, but this is where we are right now.

You have good taste. I’m involved with two of them, and so are a couple of my friends. Thanks for having faith in my projects.

Horsefeathers! Teri, I’m amazed. I never have time for fun reading any more… sadly. But even if I were only working, and not blogging or writing, or the other “get the heck out of DC” things I work on, I wouldn’t have been able to read so many books. Thanks for sharing them with us here. Here’s to a wonderful 2017. Hugs.

The reason I can read more over the holidays is that we travel and reading in the car doesn’t bother me. It’s a good thing because I’d be bored out of my mind. Hugs to you, Teagan.

Admirable. It sounds like you’re pretty organized. I just pick up books (or ebooks) almost at random, trying to read mostly indie authors. But there’s just so much! And to think in years past I would re-read books, several times, for pure pleasure, without worrying about missing anything. I’m almost in “too much of a good thing” territory.

Thanks, Audrey, but organized isn’t a word I’d use to describe me (hubby would agree). Around a year ago I knew I needed to work on getting all these books read and if I wasn’t accountable to someone, the list would keep growing. I vaguely remember the days I’d re-read for pleasure – usually Harry Potter.

Congrats on surpassing your reading goal! And I’m not sure the TBR ever gets whittled down, LOL. I was delighted to see Macabre Sanctuary among your reads. That was a fun anthology to be included in. And I hope you’re enjoying A COLD TOMORROW.
I’m actually halfway through SARAH, so I’ll have a review coming soon too! Cain and Finn are great characters.

You see my TBR actually grew, even though I read past my goal. Guess it could be worse – buying shoes or something else instead of books! Macabre Sanctuary had some wonderful chilling stories – probably got some weird looks at my facial expressions from people at the gym while I read on the elliptical.
Glad you’re enjoying Sarah – I think Cain and Finn are still running rampant in my brain.

Great feat and congratulations on exceeding your goals. I currently have 21 books in my TBR pile. I hope to just get through those in 2017.

Thanks, Stacy! I wish my TBR was that low – but then I’d buy more books.
