Downsizing the TBR Pile

With my son away at camp last week, I made a modest amount of progress on my WIP, figured out a couple of plot points, and finished reading three books.  Feeling semi-impressed with myself.

I forgot to mention this a couple of weeks ago, but The 5th Wave by Rick Yancey has been in my TBR pile for quite a while and I hadn’t wanted to watch the movie before reading it, but my son talked me into it.  And we both agreed the movie was horrible.  I choose to have faith in all the positive reviews of the book and believe in the fact that nearly all movies made from books suck.  Except The Martian.  Just needed to vent on that one.

This week I finished Midnight Thief by Livia Blackburne.  The protagonist, Kyra, is a 17566814strong character and I admired her bravery, compassion, sense of preservation -and her stealth. I mean, she’s a thief, and pretty good one. The book is well-crafted and had me captivated until a significant plot twist I’m surprised I didn’t see coming – then I lost some interest. After that, I’m not sure if I’ll continue with the series, but I’m glad I read the first book.

    1. I bought the book when it came out and can’t believe it’s taken me this long to get to it – it’s a fantastic series. I’ve only heard good things about A Darker Shade of Magic – love her other books also.
