WIPpet Wednesday

Most of our snow has melted, but we’ve been having so much rain, I’m going to need animages (2) ark to get around pretty soon.  I’m ready for sun, flowers, warm temperatures, grilling out, and having some wine out on the patio – the patio that will probably require a wet vac to even make it habitable again.

I felt like I did pretty well with my work count last week, but when I added it up today, it wasn’t near what I’d thought – hoping I just can’t add and will recheck it again later.  Anyhoo – I’m upping my word count per day and we’ll see what happens.  You know how it is – sometimes the characters talk, and sometimes they’re on an extended coffee break – or at happy hour – or nursing the aftereffects of an extended happy hour.

My math for today is pretty simple.  3 + 11 = a couple of paragraphs from chapter 14.  Cain has just had a pretty weird thing happen and he’s trying to figure it out.

What.  The.  Hell.  What just happened?  Was it paranormal?  Just a very vivid dream?  Did I sleepwalk and open the door to the attic myself?

With horror books and movies, I was fully aware of the rule stating the guy who checked on the weird noises coming from the basement/next room/outside alone never came back, so you could look at what I did next in a couple of ways.  Either you could say I had a healthy curiosity about who or what kept opening the door and apparently lived in the attic, or I was a stupid moron with a death wish like the guy in the horror movies.  Whatever you decided, I was just curious or stupid enough to make a trip up the stairs to the attic.

Check out other WIPpets here.  Big thanks to K.L. Schwengel for hosting!

  1. “Either you could say I had a healthy curiosity about who or what kept opening the door and apparently lived in the attic, or I was a stupid moron with a death wish like the guy in the horror movies.” LMAO I love the voice you’re using here, and this line is just great.

We’ve got the warm temps now and sun. So our snow is disappearing and the frost is starting to creep up and mud — everywhere. Mudliscious, as the e. e. cummings poem says.

Bahahahahahahahaha! Nice. 🙂 I love that. It’s exactly how I’d be feeling. “Do I go look? Or do I just scramble to the kitchen, get myself a frying pan, and drag my husband with me because if he’s there nothing will happen.” (Because that’s the other thing in horror movies. It only happens if the person is alone.)

  3. I got most of the ice off the walk and the driveway today. We need to repair the mailbox – someone hit it. For a while, we had it on the ridiculously tall snowbank…but it’s mostly melted, and the box is about on the ground.

But it is getting warmer, and I’m making progress…

As for Cain, he really should know better….but I’ll bet he lives to tell.

      1. On the plus side, rain is bound to make thing greener…at least, eventually, if they don’t drown.

My Accomplice did a temporary fix on the mailbox earlier – the snowbank is almost gone, now. =)

I’ll be heading out before too long to deal with some of that lingering ice and snow.

  4. our snow is melting, but there’s so much of it, it might be awhile before we see much of the ground.

I like his thoughts here. I’d probably have a (not so) healthy dose of curiosity too. 🙂

    1. So would I – when I hear things in the house, it’s me who gets out of bed, not my husband. Maybe if word gets out about that, he’ll start getting up instead!

    1. Thanks, Ruth! Yep – some of those horror movies are a little predictable. Seems like there’s always someone who thinks they can take care of things by themselves.

  5. I really like Cain’s voice, it usually manages to make me smile! But now I really want to know what made him sleepwalk to the attic, and what happens to him now!

I hope the weather’s picked up for you now. 🙂
