WIPpet Wednesday

I’m a little late posting this – one of those days when you wake up and already seem behind, you know?

My WIPpet today is page 8 (2×4), 15 lines.  Cain and the girl he wishes he were dating, Lindsey, are discussing his current girlfriend he’d love to be rid of, Erin.   For more wonderful WIPpets, go this link.   Many thanks to K. L. Schwengel for hosting.

“You missed a Broncos game?  What could keep you from that, cause I know soccer practice was over by five since I had to pick up Caleb.”

“I was dragged to the mall against my will,” I replied, twisting the silver ring I wore on my right index finger.

“Finn made you go shopping again?  Doesn’t he have enough shoes by now?”

I snorted out loud, like the total babe magnet that I am.  “Yeah, I wish.  Um, Erin needed to look for…. some kind of shirt or something.  I really wasn’t paying attention,” I said, my head down as I glanced sideways at her.  Something flitted across her face, a girl look I was unfamiliar with.  Sometimes I wish I had a sister or Ethan was a girl and could interpret things for me.  Life would be so much easier.

“Yeah, well that’s what happens when you date those prom queen types.  It’s all fun and games until they need to go shopping.”

“It’s definitely not all fun and games,” I muttered.

  1. “I snorted out loud, like the total babe magnet that I am.” This line made me snort out loud too, and felt equally dorky. Great snippet though, love the last line as well. Love all of it, in fact.

  2. Reminds me of a friend of mine, who once asked me if I’d talk to his girlfriend about wearing less makeup and fussing less with her appearance, because he thought I looked just fine without all that, and maybe I could influence her.

He wan’t hitting on me – I was already married, and we were more like siblings – but I told him I thought she was the wrong girl for him. He wanted natural, and she was obviously into created image.

Some time later, the relationship ended, and then he met someone else – natural, into many of the same things he was. It’s been over a dozen years, and they’re still happily together. =)

I think your snorting nice guy babe magnet is onto something. He’s not a prom queen guy. Go for the soccer girl – she’s clearly on your wavelength!

My teen boy isn’t ready to think about dating, yet – but I feel him getting closer. I expect he’s going to be a little clueless, too – but he does have the advantage of having a sister who is part diva, part daredevil…so he kind of gets the best of both worlds, for learning to figure her kind…

      1. No high school here – my kids have never gone to school (although one or both might someday decide to). So we just have the trials and tribulations of growing up, and four strong-willed and independent people with a diverse array of passions sharing one small house.

        But I remember high school….

It was definitely NOT all fun and games, and people got hurt…

May you enjoy them, and the growing up…the other morning, I woke up, and I swear my son’s voice was two or three notes deeper than it had been the day before!
